“I’m really looking forward to starting my third year in Formula 1 with Scuderia Toro Rosso; time has just flown by since my rookie year, when I remember feeling quite nervous. Now that sensation has transformed into excitement and motivation thanks to all the experience I’ve gained with the team. I can’t wait to now put all these skills into practice for this 2017 season that’s about to start – I’m definitely more confident and totally ready for it! F1 is taking a massive step forward this year thanks to the regulation changes. This year the cars seem very fast and racing is going to attract many more fans. I’m convinced we will put on a great show. This year I need to focus on improving and continue to deliver good results – I will try to improve what we managed to do last year, which was already very good. It’s difficult to set any objectives before getting to Australia and seeing where we really stand, but I’m confident we will have a strong year. Now we just need to complete the tests in Barcelona, prepare and set-up the car to my liking and get ready to go racing… I just can’t wait!”
“Starting my fourth year in Formula 1 makes me feel a bit old, but it’s actually a good feeling to be just 22 years old and to already be considered an experienced driver – hopefully there’s many more years to come! 2017 is a big year for us all in F1, as it’s a season of new opportunities because of the new regulations and new cars. We will need to adapt to this as fast as possible and this is why we have trained hard during the winter in order to be ready for a bigger physical demand. Since I was a kid I’ve always had to spend a lot of time training, but I’d say this year it’s even been at a higher intensity because the G-forces will increase a lot. It’s going to be very exciting to go racing with these cars, I think they will be one of the fastest in the history of the sport! I have to say that our car, the STR12, looks very sexy, aggressive and unique in the world! I can’t wait to get this season started; 2016 changed me a lot as a person and now I’m different – this will only help me to approach 2017 in a better way, as I’m very hungry and motivated. I really want to get out there and perform in the best way possible. Bring it on!”
Carlos will be at the wheel tomorrow for the first day of testing, with Daniil getting his first taste of the STR12 on Tuesday.
